Volunteers keep the Food Pantry humming!

Volunteer Gail Selken
Each month, a different Spearfish area church steps up with volunteers and resources that allow the pantry to fulfill its mission of serving needy neighbors in our communities.

In addition to the churches and the many other organizations that lend a hand at the pantry, we have a variety of individuals, who -- while not necessarily affiliated with a church or organization -- step up and volunteer to do whatever needs to be done.

One such person is Spearfish resident Gail Selken, whose face is fast becoming a fixture around the pantry.  Whether it's stocking shelves, emptying the garbage, carrying groceries, or -- as he is doing the photo shown here -- fixing a table, Gail steps in and volunteers his time.

A long-time employee of the South Dakota Department of Energy and Natural Resources in Pierre, Gail now calls Spearfish home.  In addition to many hours at the pantry, Gail is routinely seen in another part of the Spearfish Recreation Center, working to keep fit.

Thanks to Gail Selken and the other individuals who join our churches and other community organization to make the Spearfish Community Food Pantry a valuable resource for people in need.
