Pantry shares good news

Spearfish Community Pantry treasurer Larry Weiers told the Spearfish City Council last Monday (3/15/10) that the pantry has received a generous $45,000 grant to assist the organization with construction costs and continuing food purchases. The matching grant was awarded earlier this month by the George Vucurevich Foundation, headquartered in Rapid City. The late Mr. Vucurevich is shown at left.
Weiers, accompanied by President Evonne Welsch and Vice President Karen Miller, appeared before the council to let them know that the pantry had not only achieved its $45,000 fund raising goal for remodeling part of the Spearfish Recreation Center, but that some of the contractors working on the job have donated their services, too. The northwest corner of that Rec Center will become home to the pantry by this coming summer.
The Rapid City Journal published a story today (3/22/10) with information about the Spearfish council meeting and receipt of the Vuceravich grant. An earlier story about the Vucurevich award was carried in the Black Hills Pioneer newspaper.
